Portugal remains perfect in Group A with four wins from four games played, and they are the first team in League A to advance to the quarterfinals.
Despite the perfect start to the UEFA Nations League and reaching the quarterfinals, the discussion about the falling out between head coach Jorge Jesus and Cristiano Ronaldo continues.
Ronaldo only played in matchday 1 against Wales before he was benched in matchday 2 against Norway and then left the national team camp, making himself unavailable to be in the squad in matchday 3 against Denmark and matchday 4 today in the return leg against Norway.
After the win over Norway today, Jorge Jesus made it clear that Ronaldo’s time with the national team does not depend on him, but rather on the player himself.
Jorge Jesus Invites Cristiano Ronaldo’s Return to Portugal
Last week, Cristiano Ronaldo announced that he had left the Portugal national team camp for this international break and missed the last two games in the UEFA Nations League.
His statement did not indicate whether he had fully retired from the national team, but many rumors in Portugal suggested that he decided to not play for Portugal again under Jorge Jesus.

Jorge Jesus once again spoke about Ronaldo and said that the player is more than welcome to return to the national team and would accept him back despite the player leaving the camp abruptly.
Jorge Jesus said, “I don’t know what will happen. For me, everything is still open. Cristiano is the one who has to decide his future. For the next call-up, if Cristiano is playing and wants to be with the national team, then why not? Is there any resentment? No, absolutely not. It was simply a misunderstanding, and in my opinion, it will be easy to resolve. When will I resolve it? I don’t know.”
During the post-match press conference, Jorge Jesus insists that he does not know what Ronaldo will decide to do but insists that his return to Portugal is not off limits.
Jorge Jesus said, “I don’t know. I don’t know what Cristiano might decide…Since nothing extraordinary happened that affected my authority as a coach, for me, Cristiano will be eligible for the next call-up [November] if he is playing for Al Nassr, provided that he wants to return to the national team.”
Portugal’s next two games in the UEFA Nations League will be against Denmark at home and Wales away from home in mid-November.
