Grimsley Senior High School’s football team topped Varina High School, 24-17, on Friday evening. However, while the football team earned a big win, the marching band had a difficult night.

The Virginia high school’s marching band was reportedly kicked out of Friday night’s game, allegedly for playing songs while the opposing team was on offense – a big no-no in the sports world.

“Grimsley’s marching band was asked to leave and escorted out of the stadium during the second half after the public address announcer repeatedly warned Grimsley not to play music while the ball was in play,” News Nation reported.

“According to an affiliate with the Grimsley band, who wished to remain anonymous, the Varina marching band was playing while the ball was in play during the first half of the game. At halftime, Grimsley’s band leadership consulted with the head referee, who told them he would not penalize either band for playing while the ball was in play.”

Grimsley was reportedly warned multiple times, before ultimately being kicked out of the stadium, after allegedly playing songs again in the second half.

Grimsley High School Band posted a statement on Facebook.

“Unfortunately, our night was cut short due to the principal of Varina High School having the band kicked out of the game for playing exactly as their band was. However, we are extremely proud of our students, how they played and supported our team, even in the face of adversity! Great job, Whirlies! #gowhirlies,” WFMY 2 News reported.
