The San Francisco 49ers could very well be the best team in all of football right now. They improved to 4-0 on Sunday with a 24-14 win over the Denver Broncos, and they won by a somewhat comfortable margin despite not being able to get their offense going until deep in the second half.

But the injury bug just won’t stop sinking its teeth into the team, and it keeps claiming key members of the roster. On Sunday, star fullback Kyle Juszczyk had to leave with a knee injury after making a 16-yard reception early in the fourth quarter. Cornerback Upton Stout and safety Marques Sigle were also forced to exit due to shoulder and ankle injuries, respectively.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan gave somewhat of an update on the status of all three following the conclusion of the game.
What Shanahan said
Via Nick Wagoner of ESPN, Shanahan said the news isn’t great but perhaps not terrible for Juszczyk, and he also said that the severity of the injuries to Stout and Sigle is still undetermined.
“Juice … they’re thinking it was probably a knee sprain,” Shanahan said. “[The] ACL and stuff looked intact, but we’ll have to find out tomorrow. Stout, they’re guessing an AC [sprain], but we won’t know for sure until tomorrow. And Sigle, they’re not sure. They just thought an ankle.”

Juszczyk isn’t just your typical fullback who serves as a lead blocker for his running backs. He is also occasionally a pass-catching threat, as he was on Sunday with two receptions for 28 yards. For the season so far, he now has four catches, 55 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The 35-year-old has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last 10 seasons. If he has to miss some time, it may not be a huge blow to the Niners’ Super Bowl hopes, but it would still be a blow nonetheless, especially considering that the team will visit the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5.
Stout and Sigle have developed into key rotation players in San Francisco’s secondary. Both men had six total tackles (four solo) in Week 4, and Sigle came into Sunday’s game with 20 total tackles (nine solo) and one sack this year.
