Sacramento jury convicts man in deadly 2022 Franklin Boulevard bar shooting

A Sacramento County jury found a man guilty Thursday of second-degree murder in a 2022 shooting at a south Sacramento bar that left one man dead and three others injured.

Joel Tyrone Zeigler was convicted of second-degree murder, attempted murder and three counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office announced in a news release.

Zeigler was at Goeman’s Bar on April 17, 2022, when he saw a man he believed had been involved in a previous shooting of his brother, according to prosecutors. The bar on 7200 Franklin Blvd. now operates as Score Bar & Lounge.

Shortly after midnight on Easter Sunday, Zeigler fired seven shots at the man, striking him and three bystanders, prosecutors said. Robert Earl Daniel, a 33-year-old bystander, was shot in the back and killed, according to previous Bee reporting.

Zeigler was arrested days later and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on a murder charge

Prosecutors said an allegation that Zeigler has prior strike convictions for robbery and carjacking will be decided at sentencing.

Zeigler, who remains in Main Jail custody, faces a maximum sentence of 123 years to life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for July 24 before Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White.
