Shedeur Sanders has been out of the spotlight for most of the 2026 NFL season so far.

The Browns, of course, are being led by veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson, who won the starting job in the offseason. Sanders is the team’s backup quarterback, as the Browns are off to a surprisingly good start. The Browns are 3-1 through four games, heading into a Week 5 game against Jets.
Sanders, meanwhile, hasn’t been heard from as much, after spending much of his 2025 rookie season as the team’s starting quarterback, reaching the Pro Bowl after other players dropped out.
Sanders is understandably a polarizing player. His father, Deion Sanders, is likely a big-time part of that.
The second-year NFL quarterback admitted in an interview with Cosmopolitan that he thinks most NFL fans don’t really understand who he is.

He’s coming to terms with that.
“I don’t think a lot of people really know me. I’m just now starting to understand that. You hear a lot of things online, but every encounter I have in person, people end up saying, ‘Oh, wow, he’s actually a great guy.’ Why would you think I’m a bad guy?” he said.
The Browns appear to be committed to Deshaun Watson for now, though that doesn’t mean Sanders’ future with the team is uncertain, either.
During an appearance on “92.3 The Fan,” Mary Kay Cabot said Cleveland would prefer to keep all four quarterbacks for now.
“They prefer to keep all four QBs. That is the goal right now,” Cabot said. “Of course, anything can happen over the next three weeks, things can change and certainly by the trade deadline, things could possible change. But right now, they still do not intend to trade Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders and they would prefer to keep all four on the roster.”
