Roman Wilson Injury Update Leaves Steelers Scrambling at WR With Michael Pittman Jr. on IR

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ receiver room got thinner on Sunday. Roman Wilson, who came into the season as the team’s WR3, dislocated a finger late in the first half against the Indianapolis Colts and was ruled out.

He was hurt on a play that went down as an 11-yard catch before it was overturned on review, and he headed to the locker room before halftime holding his hand. Pittsburgh led 17-16 in the third quarter.

The Steelers are running low on receivers

Michael Pittman Jr. is already on injured reserve with a foot injury and will miss at least four weeks, and Ben Skowronek was questionable to return with a leg injury Sunday. That leaves DK Metcalf alongside Germie Bernard, rookie returner Kaden Wetjen and practice squad call-up Brandon Smith.

Losing Wilson stings more because he was finally producing. He had 14 catches for 188 yards through four games, with a touchdown in each of the last two, including a 74-yard day in the loss to the Cleveland Browns. He earned an 80.8 receiving grade in that game, according to PFF, on just 21 pass snaps.

Bernard is the obvious candidate for more snaps. He and Wilson spent the offseason training together while competing for the same spot, and now he may get it by default for a while.
