The Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not expect to have the start to their season that they’ve had. The team stands at 1-4 after picking up its first win in Week 5.
Baker Mayfield’s injury has not helped things, and this coaching staff is arguably on the hottest seat in the league. If things don’t get turned around quickly, the Buccaneers could end up being major sellers at the trade deadline.
This team has several pieces who would theoretically be interesting trade candidates. One of the top names that comes to mind is veteran receiver Chris Godwin, who has been very underwhelming in 2026.
Godwin and Other Bucs Who Could Be Moved
So far in five games, Godwin has caught 19 passes for 179 yards. The veteran has yet to find the end zone, and even though he’s dealing with a rookie UDFA quarterback, he wasn’t killing it with Mayfield either.
Godwin has a club option for 2027, so the Bucs could cut bait after this season. That means a trade could make some sense if the team doesn’t plan on keeping the veteran around after the season anyway.
River Wells of Buccaneers OnSI thinks Godwin is the best trade candidate on the team.

“Godwin is 30 years old and isn’t getting a ton of use in Zac Robinson’s scheme, and there are probably a few teams that wouldn’t mind his veteran presence and experience at the position — and maybe a few that would utilize him just a bit more,” said Wells. “Godwin could be a rental for any team looking to take themselves over the line, and the Bucs could get a little capital on top.”
As Wells mentioned, there are some other teams around the league who would definitely utilize Godwin more. The veteran does have four 1,000-yard seasons in his career, to go with a Pro Bowl selection and a Super Bowl.
Godwin isn’t the only possible trade candidate. Running backs Kenny Gainwell and Bucky Irving, and edge rusher Yaya Diaby are some other possible trade pieces for the Bucs. The team probably doesn’t want to move Irving or Diaby, but if the season continues to go downhill, they could be open to anything.
Irving just had his best game of the season, and with several teams needing running back reinforcements, it wouldn’t be shocking if a team made a big offer.
