Ohio State Fans Accuse AP Poll Of Showing Major Bias Toward Alabama

Several weeks ago the Ohio State Buckeyes lost a road game to the Texas Longhorns and dropped from No. 1 all the way to No. 6. This weekend, No. 6 Alabama lost at home to SEC rival Georgia but stood firm at No. 6 in the latest AP poll. As you might expect, Buckeyes fans are calling shenanigans.

The latest AP poll was released on Sunday afternoon and to the shock of virtually everyone, Alabama did not move at all in spite of their 20-17 home loss to the Bulldogs on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Texas Longhorns, who narrowly lost to Oklahoma after a bad fourth quarter, fell from first all the way to No. 7.

Here’s the current top-10 ranking:

  1. Georgia
  2. Notre Dame
  3. Miami
  4. Ohio State
  5. Indiana
  6. Alabama
  7. Texas
  8. BYU
  9. Ole Miss
  10. Texas Tech

Buckeyes Fans Call Out the Voters

Fans were quick to accuse the AP of more voter bias, especially with four other teams still undefeated as Alabama nurses its earlier loss in a season since 2024.

“Ohio State lost to the #1 team on the road by 1 point? Dropped 5 spots,” one Buckeyes fan wrote on X. “Alabama lost to the #1 team at home? You guessed it, kept the same ranking. SEC! SEC!”

“It’s (expletive) maddening,” another replied.

“So Ohio State drops 6 pts losing by a point on the road, but Alabama gets to move up 4 spots for losing at home ?” wrote a third.

“Ohio loses to Texas by 1 @ Texas, drops like 5 spots Alabama loses to Georgia by 3 at home, no change AP Poll is a bigger joke than the WNBA.”

One could argue that the manner by which both teams lost their biggest games of the season has impacted the way they’ve been ranked. Ohio State blew a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter of their loss to Texas while Alabama were in a dogfight all the way to the final drive of the game, and would have won the game if not for a blown pass interference call.

But if Ohio State can knock off reigning national champion Indiana next week, they’ll probably find themselves back on top.
