Patriots MVP Candidate Drake Maye Returns, Fires Near-Perfect Game to Overwhelm Raiders

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The Drake Maye of 2025 is back!

The National Football League runner-up to the MVP a year ago, Maye basically threw a perfect game at the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, powering the New England Patriots to a 45-17 win.

Posting a season-best 150.9 rating Maye made it look easy in a 26 of 34 374-yard passing day with four touchdowns and most importantly, no turnovers.

No fumbles, no picks, just pure bliss. And he did it at just the right time, with a handful of starters out with injuries against a 3-1 Raiders’ team hungry to be recognized.

Deflecting the praise to McDaniels

“Coach (Josh) McDaniels. It was beautiful to be a part of,” said Maye, deflecting any and all credit to his offensive coordinator and then his teammates.

“He was clicking on all cylinders, just great to be a part of.”

Maye and the offense cashed in for touchdowns on five of its first eight possessions.

Tight end Hunter Henry noted the success and efficiency were just a matter of “staying out of our own way.”

That starts with Maye, who after posting one TD pass with six interceptions through three games, has totally reversed the trend with seven TD passes and one pick the last two weeks.

Amazing mental toughness

Maye’s resilience is not lost on his teammates.

“From those past games, anybody could have been down himself. Not him,” admired DeMario Douglas, who caught four passes for 65 yards and two TDs on Sunday. “He came to work.”

Maye’s confidence just hasn’t wavered, at least in the locker room and it has translated onto the field.

The swagger is back

“Confident in every game I play,” is how he described it. “I’m going to go into every game, every week and attack it.”

It was clearly the Maye of old as he completed passes to nine different receivers on the day, led by Eli Raridon and Efton Chism with five apiece.

The big plays were there all day in the Raiders secondary and Maye found them with completions of 26, 31, 35 and 49 yards.

“We have to hit them when we get the chance to,” Maye said. “And we hit most of them today.”
