With about five minutes left in the quarter, Samuel was tripped up and went to the ground and lost the ball, which popped loose when it hit the ground. Officials called it a fumble on the field, and the ruling stood after review.

The Fox broadcast said Samuel suffered a right hamstring injury as he limped off the field. He’s been ruled out of the game. Seattle led 23-21 late in the third quarter, and extended it to 26-21 after the turnover.

What Samuel has given the 49ers in his return

Samuel came back on a one-year, incentive-heavy deal worth up to $7 million after spending 2025 with the Washington Commanders, where he caught 72 passes for 727 yards.

He has been a scoring threat again. Samuel came into Sunday with 185 receiving yards and touchdown catches in three of four games, plus 74 rushing yards on seven carries. Kyle Shanahan has used him all over the formation, from the slot to the backfield, which makes him harder to replace than his raw totals suggest.
