Raymundo Mesa Jr., 42, of Arbuckle, was arrested Thursday near a home in the 1200 block of Payne Court, where police served a search warrant, the Yuba City Police Department announced Monday in a news release.
Sutter Superior Court records show Mesa appeared for his arraignment Monday afternoon, and he is scheduled to return to court Oct. 21 for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence for him to stand trial.
The Sutter County District Attorney’s Office charged Mesa with two felonies: unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. Court records showed Mesa also faced a misdemeanor charge of resisting police.
On Thursday, the Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, with help from the Yuba-Sutter Regional SWAT Team, served a search warrant at the Payne Court home in Yuba City. Police said the operation targeted Mesa of who was a wanted felon believed to be in possession of firearms.
Authorities had been searching for Mesa for more than six months on an arrest warrant out of Colusa County involving the unlawful possession of firearms, including a machine gun and a suppressor, police said. Mesa had previously evaded law enforcement attempts to arrest him by fleeing in vehicles and on foot.

As the SWAT team arrived at the home, Mesa fled through the back of the property, jumped several fences and entered a nearby vacant home, police said. Officers surrounded the vacant home and obtained another search warrant to locate and arrest Mesa.
For several hours, the SWAT team ordered Mesa to surrender. Police said officers used diversionary devices, chemical agents and a police dog, but Mesa continued to hide inside the home.
The standoff with authorities ended when Mesa fell through the ceiling from his hiding spot in the attic and was taken into custody, police said.
Investigators searched the vacant home and found a loaded 10 mm Glock 20 handgun and a cellphone that had been discarded inside, according to the Police Department.
Police said Mesa was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being booked into the Sutter County Jail. He remained in custody Monday.
