Gurinder Singh Gill, 28, was accused of killing his wife, Jasmine Gill, 30, who was last seen alive Sept. 30. He was arraigned Friday afternoon on a murder charge, Sacramento Superior Court records showed.

Jasmine Gill was last seen at her Sacramento home, and her cousin reported her missing Oct. 4, according to a Friday news release from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s officials asked the public Oct. 9 to help locate her.

During the initial investigation, Gurinder Gill claimed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had taken his wife into custody while she checked the mail at their home, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s detectives contacted ICE, which confirmed that its agents had conducted no enforcement activity at the home.

Detectives later identified inconsistencies in Gurinder Gill’s statements about his wife’s disappearance. Sheriff’s officials said the couple had been involved in an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute.

On Oct. 1, three days before Jasmine Gill was reported missing, authorities discovered burned human remains in El Dorado County. Sheriff’s officials said the remains were later identified as hers.

Homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Gurinder Gill with murder. They arrested him Wednesday and booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail. He remained jailed without bail Friday.

Detectives also served search warrants at two homes associated with Gurinder Gill. The Sheriff’s Office did not say whether investigators found any evidence at either property.
