Creating food that brings people together lies at the heat of chef Christopher Fairman’s new restaurant in Davis.

Fairman has been cooking food and serving customers for two decades. He said he has grown to love hospitality and to see food as more than just nourishment, but as a way to connect with others.
That inspired him to open Munchie Man in the heart of downtown Davis.
With a menu showcasing cuisine from across the world, such as Thai steak salad, a Texas pulled pork sandwich and Mexican tostadas, Fairman’s new restaurant is set to open on D Street in November. The chef describes the bistro as an “autobiography told through food.”
“The whole place is inspired by my travels and meals that make me happy,” Fairman said. “… Food is a lot about memories, and I just want to share things.”
Munchie Man described itself as a restaurant focused on “creative comfort food with…fresh, seasonal ingredients and bold flavors,” according to its website. Fairman, who is from Carmichael, is also the creator of the restaurant’s mascot: Munchie Man. The hand-drawn stick figure character will be a part of the dining spot’s identity and theme. Rather than Fairman being the face of the restaurant, Munchie Man will serve that role, Fairman said.
Fairman sent The Sacramento Bee Munchie Man’s tentative menu ahead of its grand opening later this fall. It listed dishes such as papaya salad with bay shrimp, smoked chicken sandwich and a tofu sandwich with tomatoes, jalapeno, greens and vegan mayo. The restaurant will also serve one of Fairman’s childhood favorites, his mother’s bread pudding.

The restaurant’s smaller plates and shareable appetizers will be a part of its “Munchie Menu.” These will include mac and cheese balls, beet-pickled deviled eggs, sweet potato fries, and Chiang Mai chicken bites.
The menu will also feature two dishes which will rotate weekly, such as pasta Puttanesca and chicken piccata with mashed potatoes. The bistro will also have a full bar and wine menu, Fairman said.
Munchie Man got its start in 2023 as a weekly pop-up at Socal’s Tavern in East Sacramento. Each week, Fairman would serve a different dish inspired by either his childhood or places where he’s traveled with his husband.
After its November opening, the restaurant’s hours will be 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It will stay open an hour later on Friday and Saturday and will be closed Mondays.
