Sean McVay ‘couldn’t care less’ what Chargers’ record is

The Los Angeles Rams’ march back to .500 (and beyond) continues this week with the Los Angeles Chargers. Shockingly, the Chargers are the last team without a win this season, starting the year with an abysmal 0-6 record.

Sean McVay knows the Chargers haven’t won a game yet, and he “couldn’t care less.” Whether an opponent is 0-6 or 6-0, McVay is fully aware that his team has to be ready because in the NFL, anyone can beat anyone.

And as he has said in the past, this league can humble you in a hurry.

“Humility is a day away,” McVay said of his message to the team. “This is a good team. The records and stuff, with the way that this season and the way that everything’s gone in this league, anybody can beat anybody. I would hope that we’re mature and professional enough to know that we have to be able to have the right focus, concentration, level of urgency. This is professional football. They have great players. They’re really well coached. I couldn’t care less about what their record is. We’ll get humbled if we’re not ready to go.”

In their Week 6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the Rams suffered the biggest upset of the NFL season. They were favored by 12.5 points, making the Cardinals’ win the largest upset thus far. This week, the Rams opened as 7-point favorites over the Chargers, which isn’t even the biggest spread of the week.

Point spreads mean nothing to players and coaches, nor do records and stats. The Chargers still have Justin Herbert, Omarion Hampton, Khalil Mack and Derwin James. Some were even predicting they would win the AFC West before the season started.

The Rams can’t afford to take this team lightly, especially given the circumstances. The Chargers are coming off a bye and playing at SoFi Stadium as the road team, so it’s essentially a home game. And as the last winless team in the NFL, you can be sure they’re desperate for a victory.
