President Trump will become the first sitting U.S. President in history to attend the NBA Finals when the Knicks and Spurs square off at Madison Square Garden in Game 3. But as ticket prices continue to soar, the President was asked about the state of ticket prices for major sporting events.

During a press meeting on Air Force One today, the President was asked for his thoughts on tickets rising above $8,000 and how they’re seen as un-affordable to most Americans. President Trump responded by suggesting that fans simply watch the game on TV instead.
“You can watch it on television,” Trump said. “It’s sort of semi-free to watch it on television. That’s the way life goes… If the team wasn’t a big success, tickets would go very easily… but that’s the way life is.”
The Backlash
The statement has a bit of a “let them eat cake” ring to it that many people didn’t really appreciate.
“Wow always looking out for the little man, what a guy,” one user mocked.
“Trump does not care that people can’t afford basic necessities,” another said bluntly.

“He’s not even pretending to fight for the average American. He couldn’t care less,” a third said.
“That’s the way life is unless you’re wealthy, powerful and connected.”
“That’s the way life goes, eh? Uhm… That’s what a loser says.”
There’s an extra layer of irony to President Trump saying that the ticket prices being so high are just “the way life goes,” considering that he has had some pretty nasty things to say about the prices of tickets for the FIFA World Cup and even said that he’s not planning on attending.
Granted, he can always change his mind about attending the World Cup, but it’s really disappointing that he can’t even pretend to be concerned for how expensive those tickets are.
