Former Capital Public Radio general manager Jun Reina will return to court in September after a judge approved his request Wednesday to postpone a hearing in his embezzlement, fraud and grand theft case.

Reina, along with his counsel, appeared in Sacramento Superior Court via Zoom on Wednesday to request that his mandatory settlement hearing be moved to Sept. 17 from June 17. Judge David Bonilla permitted Reina’s request, adding that Reina and his counsel will be required to attend the new hearing in person.
Bonilla previously granted Reina permission to take a family trip from June 6 to June 12 and to attend his Wednesday hearing via Zoom during an April hearing.
The former CapRadio general manager was arrested in January and faces charges associated with conducting what prosecutors called a “multi-year scheme” during his time at the organization. According to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, Reina allegedly misappropriated $1.33 million through unauthorized credit card charges, payments to personal credit card accounts and 144 ACH transfers from Capital Public Radio’s bank account.

Reina used the funds for luxury resort expenditures, home improvements and high-priced consumer goods from 2015 to 2022, according to credit card transaction data.
Capital Public Radio is a nonprofit NPR affiliate licensed to Sacramento State, where Reina earned a salary of $253,080 as general manager. He left the station in 2023 before layoffs and programming cuts, according to previous Bee reporting.
