For the first time in her WNBA career, Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese has not been selected to the WNBA All-Star Game. But after seeing that none of her teammates got chosen either, she had some harsh words for the voters.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Reese called it “disrespectful” that none of her teammates got selected despite the team being fourth in the WNBA standings. She was particularly bummed for Rhyne Howards and Allisha Gray, both of whom are having solid seasons as the Dream raced out to a 12-8 start.
“I expect to be disrespected,” Reese said, via ESPN. “For those two though, I think they work so hard and they put a lot of work in, and the way that they’re guarded every game and they [have to] adjust. The reason why we’re where we are is because of those two.
“For us not to have anyone was just a slap in the face, but they’re not going to say anything. I am.”

Reese has definitely been getting the most out of her new environment. Through just 20 games she’s already enjoyed more wins than all of last season with the Chicago Sky and is one win shy of the 13 the Sky won in her 2024 rookie campaign.
The Dream had the third-best record in the WNBA last season and are currently just three wins behind the Minnesota Lynx for the top record in the league.

Getting a record like that probably required having a few players that were among the best in their position in the league. And the numbers show that they do.
Reese leads the league in rebounds (as usual), Jordin Canada ranks fourth in assists, Howard ranks second in three pointers per game, and the Dream have three of the five leaders in steals with Howard, Canada and Gray.
There is still a chance that Reese and some of her teammates reach the All-Star Game as replacements or backups, but it clearly stings her pride a bit.
“Congrats to the ones that were nominated, they were well-deserved,” Reese said. “But it’s a very big shocker to see that none of us were starters, especially where we are as a team in the league.
“I’m sure we’re still going to be All-Stars. I have no doubt in my mind that we still will be, but I think it is important to note that none of us were starters on a team that has had so much success this year.”
