The New York Knicks seem more inclined to be sellers than buyers during the ongoing NBA offseason but there is a sliver of discourse going on about LeBron James potentially taking his talents to Madison Square Garden. The team fed into it a tiny bit earlier today.

In a post on X this morning, the Knicks shared a photo of NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson teeing off on the course.
“the off-season is in full swing,” the team wrote.
“As long as there is golf…”
The genius behind that seemingly innocuous post is that it’s an almost direct response to a recent quote from LeBron’s agent Rich Paul, who said that LeBron will be “fine” with almost any team – “as long as there is indoor and outdoor golf.”
“I think it’s more so having the ability to compete for the possibility to compete for winning a championship… I’ve spoken to about 12-14 teams… As long as there is indoor and outdoor golf, I think he’ll be fine…. I think you can say being competitive. I think you can say having guys who understand how to play at a high level.”

“This is a CRAZY way to lure Bron. Love to see it @KingJames we golf over here too,” one user wrote.
“Him and Bron would be a nasty duo btw,” another wrote.
“BRON LIKES GOLFING – BRUNSON NEEDS TO CALL RICH IF BRON IS A KNICK – BRUNSON IS GOLFING WITH BRON RN – BRON IS COMING!” a third declared.
“Brunson recruiting bron on the golf course? 😂👀 Knicks twitter ain’t slick.”
But it’s going to take a lot more than some good golf for the Knicks to successfully recruit LeBron. Lest we forget, the Knicks tried to court him all the way back in 2010 and his decision to spurn them contributed to the domino effect of their decade-and-a-half of utter misery before Brunson finally arrived.
The Knicks are also pretty strapped for cap space right now. They’ve already had to say goodbye to Mitchell Robinson in order to free up space. Unless LeBron truly is willing to take a massive paycut to play in New York, he really wouldn’t fit into that plan to reduce their cap hits.
