FIFA Reportedly Lifted Folarin Balogun’s Suspension After White House Involvement

The American striker is available to play tomorrow against Belgium, but his red card is valid for up to a year, which means he will be suspended for one game in another match.

The decision has surprised many, and fans are mostly opposed to the United States President Donald Trump’s reaction to the news. Trump wrote, “Thank you to FIFA for doing what was right and reversing a great injustice.”

The White House’s official X account also reacted to the news, and new reports suggest that the White House may have been involved in looking into Balogun’s red card case.

Was the White House involved in Folarin Balogun’s Game Ban Being Suspended?

According to Ben Jacobs on TalkSport, there may have been potential involvement from the White House in having Balogun avaialble for the USA vs. Belgium game despite the striker receiving a straight red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ben Jacobs reports that the White House made a direct call to FIFA to ask Gianni Infantino to review Folarin Balogun’s red card. However, FIFA sources insist that White House influence could not affect the decision ‘due to the powers contained in Article 27 and the independent nature of the disciplinary panel’.

Jacobs reports that FIFA insists the White House couldn’t influence its independent disciplinary panel despite a direct call.
