Yankees Announce Jazz Chisholm Jr. News After Leaving Twins Game

The New York Yankees (49-39) have hit a rough patch after starting the year as one of the best teams in MLB. Despite remaining second in the American League East, the club entered Sunday having won just two of its previous 10 games and trailing the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays by four games.

Injuries and inconsistent offense have contributed to the slide, leaving Aaron Boone’s team searching for answers entering the second half of the season.

The Yankees hoped to bounce back and salvage their series against the Minnesota Twins after Saturday’s 11-4 loss, but instead found themselves in another early hole.

Minnesota jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first five innings, putting New York on the back foot once again as the Yankees looked to avoid another disappointing defeat before beginning a crucial road trip.

Things then went from bad to worse for New York after Chisholm exited the game with an injury during the fifth inning. After lifting a deep fly ball to right field, the Yankees infielder appeared to be in discomfort as he made his way down the first-base line.

Once the catch was made for the out, Chisholm slowed to a walk and continued gingerly through the dugout. The Yankees later announced that he left with right big toe discomfort, adding that X-rays were negative. The club said Chisholm will be reassessed on Monday (h/t Jorge Castillo of ESPN).

The timing is especially frustrating for the Yankees, who are already navigating the prolonged absence of Aaron Judge. Chisholm has remained one of New York’s most valuable players in 2026, entering Sunday batting .223 with 12 home runs and 33 RBIs in 84 games.

Unfortunately, injuries have become an all-too-familiar theme for Chisholm this season. He exited a game in June after fouling a ball off his groin, though he returned the following day and homered.

He was also recently placed in concussion protocol after a violent collision with teammate Jasson Domínguez while chasing a fly ball in the outfield, but recovered quickly enough to return to the lineup.

The Yankees will hope Chisholm’s latest issue proves to be minor as they look to reverse their recent slide. New York opens a seven-game road trip on Monday with a pivotal four-game series against the Rays before traveling to face the Washington Nationals on Friday.
