A much-loved coffee and matcha cafe in Boulevard Park just moved neighborhoods and settled into a larger storefront.

Sun House Cafe is now operating in a 1,400 square-feet storefront in midtown Sacramento at 1805 Capitol Ave. The cafe is best known for its variety of sweet and unique matcha drinks.
Sun House opened in June 2025 operating out of a 300-square-foot shop at 611 16th St. Co-owner Lalo Mata said he had been looking for a bigger space in order to expand business.
“We realized pretty quickly that people couldn’t really see our personality, our vision, our ideas in our former space,” Mata said. “Luckily, we stumbled upon it the exact second that they were hanging the ‘for lease’ sign.”
Mata and co-owner and partner Leandra Coronado officially made the move to midtown on Sept. 5.
Mata and Coronado are both from Sacramento, and early into their relationship they loved exploring cafes, he said. Whenever they traveled, they would spend entire days looking at cafes they saw on social media. The couple, who live in Elk Grove, have been together for six years.

“We wanted to create a destination that’s for everybody,” Mata said. “Where you get excited, where you already know what you’re going to get before you plan for it to be a date.”
Sun House serves coffee, cold brew, matcha and tea, according to its online menu. Its most popular drinks include the cafe’s matcha banana cream latte, strawberry matcha and double matcha. The cafe also doesn’t charge for its milk alternatives.
Mata described Sun House as a cafe that’s “community-based,” creating a menu directly from customer feedback. The business has an active social media presence, Mata said. And he wants Sun House to cater to everyone.
“We try to engage with (customers) as much on social media, and especially in person,” Mata said. “We want this place to be comfortable enough for everyone to feel like they’re at home, but still getting away from home and work environments.”
Sun House Cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.
