Legendary NFL kicker Adam Vinatieri made waves with his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction speech on Saturday.

Vinatieri, widely regarded as the greatest kicker in the history of the game, poked fun at Peyton Manning, Bill Belichick and others over the course of his Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement speech Saturday.
“And Peyton, thank you for generously donating your forehead for today’s teleprompter,” Vinatieri cracked. “A gigantic forehead means big brain and your football IQ is unmatched.”
Vinatieri, who became the third full-time kicker in NFL history to make the Hall of Fame, joining Jan Stenerud and Morten Andersen, also cracked some jokes at Bill Belichick’s expense. Belichick, now the coach at North Carolina, was not in attendance Saturday.
“I thought it was because training camp had already started,” Vinatieri said about Belichick’s absence, “but in truth it’s because he is judging his girlfriend’s cheerleading competition.”
Vinatieri did make several emotional admissions, too.
“When people hear the word greatness, they usually think about the biggest names on the biggest stages,” Vinatieri said. “But greatness isn’t created under bright lights. Greatness is built on empty practice fields when it’s below zero. Greatness is sacrificing temporary fun for meaningful outcomes. Greatness is turning doubt into belief. Preparation matters. Character matters.

“And to all the doubters, thank you. Your criticism became fuel. Your doubt became motivation. You helped make me better.”
But unsurprisingly, given today’s age, some were “offended” by his speech.
Vinatieri was basically forced into apologizing for offending anyone on Monday
Vinatieri appeared on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Monday and offered up an apology.
“I wanted it to start sentimental,” Vinatieri said during a guest segment on ”The Dan Patrick Show” on Monday. “I wanted to make people laugh, and then I wanted to end it with a bang at the end.
“So hopefully I accomplished that. But if people got offended or thought it was inappropriate, I apologize to you guys.”

For most of us, though, no apology was needed. It was an epic speech.
