Now in his sixth season with the Toronto Blue Jays, this may represent George Springer’s final year with the organization. The 36-year-old veteran is a free agent at the end of the year as his six-year, $150 million deal comes to an end.

It has been an up-and-down year for Springer. He struggled during the first half not just on the field but also in staying healthy, missing time with a broken left toe. Since the All-Star break, though, he has once again been one of the best hitters on the team. Across his last 50 games, Springer has posted a .302 batting average, .353 on-base percentage, .835 OPS, six home runs and 30 RBIs.
The Blue Jays are coming off an impressive series win over the Baltimore Orioles at home, taking two of three games. Springer himself had an excellent series, collecting three straight multi-hit games including a home run on Sunday and four RBIs across the weekend.
Ahead of Monday’s series opener with the Detroit Tigers, the Blue Jays announced that Springer has been nominated for an award recognizing who he is off the field. He has been nominated for the 2026 Roberto Clemente Award.

George annually hosts his Bowling Benefit in Toronto, raising funds and awareness for Jays Care Foundation and the Stuttering Association for the Young,” the Blue Jays wrote, also providing a link for fans to vote for Springer to receive the award.

He will go up against 29 other nominees as each MLB team submits one player. MLB defines the award as being bestowed annually to “the player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.”

Whether or not this ends up being Springer’s final season in Toronto, he has represented this organization with class both on and off the field. The Blue Jays could not be in a better position to honor that legacy than right now as they fight for the final American League wild card spot.
