Officers determined that the reported incident happened inside a campus residence on Friday night, Haley Williams, Boise Police spokesperson, told the Idaho Statesman in an email.

The victim reported the incident occurred about 11:40 p.m., according to Williams.

A campus alert was sent to Boise students shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the school alert contained inaccurate information, including its description of the suspect and the alleged crime’s location. Williams said detectives do not believe the incident occurred near the Boise River Greenbelt.

“The timely warning was based on initial information that turned out to be inaccurate,” Williams said. “Timely warnings are sent out by BSU as required by the Clery Act.”

Detectives are not seeking an unknown suspect, and there is no outstanding threat to the public, Williams said. She said there have been no arrests, and police are not asking for the public’s help identifying anyone.

Williams did not respond to the Statesman’s question about whether police had located a suspect.

Boise State also did not respond to the Statesman’s questions seeking clarity on why inaccurate information was released and which information was inaccurate. No follow-up alert was sent to students.

The Boise State alert said the suspect, who was unknown to the victim, forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. It also included a suspect description, and stated that the victim fought off the suspect and he fled the scene. The suspect’s identity and whereabouts were unknown to the victim, and police had not found a suspect as of 4:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the Boise State alert.

It is unclear what information in the alert was accurate. The school and police department did not respond to the Statesman’s questions about its accuracy.

“The Boise Police Department takes reports of sexual violence very seriously and SVU detectives are continuing to review all available evidence,” Williams said. “BPD Detectives and Victim Witness Coordinators have provided continued resources and support to the victim with the assistance of the Ada County Victim Services Center and Boise State University.”
