The Seattle Seahawks will be without Sam Darnold for a couple of weeks.
It’s a big deal for any team to lose its starting quarterback, but the Seahawks seems well positioned to manage it. The team has an elite defense and coaching staff, and Drew Lock looked more than serviceable in relief of Darnold in Week 1.

Plus, the Seahawks play the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. Entering Week 1, the Cardinals were seen as the most likely team to earn the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. However, the Cardinals dominated the Chargers, who are expected to be a contender, in Week 1, which could mean the Cardinals are much better than we expected.
You can never have a rest week in the NFL, and the Seahawks could legitimately be in danger in Week 2.
Cardinals Picked to Upset Seahawks
John Breech of CBS Sports recently revealed his picks and predictions for Week 2. Breech decided to go bold and pick the Cardinals to pull off the massive upset.
“I feel like the Seahawks are going to have trouble scoring points, but I also feel like the Cardinals are going to have trouble scoring points,” Breech explained. “No one can seem to agree on how good (Justin) Herbert is, but I think we can all agree that he’s better than Drew Lock. If Herbert struggled against the Cardinals’ defense, I think things could a lot uglier for Lock.”

Nobody would argue that Lock is better than Herbert, but the Seahawks’ overall roster is definitely better than what the Chargers have. It’s hard to imagine Jacoby Brissett having much success against this defense, even though he doesn’t make a ton of mistakes.
“(Brissett) might not throw for 350 yards, but he doesn’t make mistakes, which is why the Cardinals should be able to keep this close,” said Breech. “Wait, did I say keep this close? Because they’re going to do more than that. They’re going to win this game.”
That’s a bold prediction. The Cardinals haven’t beaten the Seahawks since 2021, and they haven’t beaten the Seahawks in Arizona since 2020. Granted, this probably will be their best chance to do it, due to Darnold not playing, but it still won’t be easy.
If the Seahawks’ defense plays how it did in Week 1, the Cardinals have little chance. Divisional games are weird, though, so you never know.
