Brandon Lowe made Pittsburgh Pirates history Tuesday night, reaching 30 home runs in his first season with the club.

Lowe hit his milestone homer against the Milwaukee Brewers, sending a ball off the right-field foul pole at PNC Park. Alex Stumpf of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the milestone on X.
The home run made Lowe the first left-handed Pirates hitter to reach 30 homers in a season since Pedro Alvarez hit 36 in 2013.

Lowe reached the mark during the Pirates’ 5-1 loss to Milwaukee, but the individual milestone added another notable chapter to his first season in Pittsburgh.
The 32-year-old entered Tuesday batting .258 with 30 home runs, 86 RBI and an .803 OPS across 140 games. He has also established himself as a key part of Pittsburgh’s lineup while playing second base.

Lowe’s power has been particularly notable considering the recent history of left-handed hitters in Pittsburgh. Alvarez was the last Pirates lefty to reach 30 home runs, while Brian Giles and Barry Bonds also accomplished the feat during their time with the franchise.
Lowe has provided more than just power this season. He has also been a regular presence defensively at second base, making 134 starts while helping anchor the Pirates’ infield.
The milestone came during a difficult night for Pittsburgh, which fell to 75-76 with the loss. The Pirates remain third in the NL Central behind the Brewers and Chicago Cubs.
Still, Lowe’s first season with the organization has already produced a significant piece of franchise history.
His 30th homer gives Pittsburgh another left-handed 30-home-run season and makes Lowe the latest Pirate to reach the mark.
