Bridgestone’s Open-Inspired Kit Is Built to Be Played

Major-championship merchandise often ends up in one of two places: on the course for a week or preserved on a shelf for years. Bridgestone Golf’s new Leaderboard Edition kit is designed to blur that line, pairing an Open-inspired collectible package with a dozen of the company’s current TOUR B RX golf balls.

Bridgestone introduced the $99.99 limited-edition capsule Tuesday, with sales beginning July 14 exclusively through the company’s website. The timing is deliberate. Championship play at the 154th Open begins Thursday at Royal Birkdale, and the kit borrows its central design from the yellow leaderboards that have become part of the championship’s visual identity.

The packaging recreates a tournament scoreboard populated by Team Bridgestone names and scores. A navy-and-yellow beanie and a soccer-style scarf complete the major-week look, while the golf balls carry a smaller 2026 leaderboard-themed mark.

A Major-Week Release Meant to Leave the Box

Limited golf releases can become so focused on collectibility that owners hesitate to use the product at the center of the package. Bridgestone avoids much of that problem by building its kit around a current performance ball rather than a novelty model.

The TOUR B RX is the top-selling model in Bridgestone’s 2026 TOUR B family and the ball Fred Couples uses in professional competition. Bridgestone positions the RX for players with driver swing speeds below 105 mph who want additional distance, a more penetrating flight and what the company describes as “hit and sit” performance on approach shots.

That choice gives the Leaderboard Edition practical value for golfers already fit into the RX. Bridgestone’s standard 2026 TOUR B models carry a suggested street price of $54.99 per dozen, which means the additional $45 in the kit covers the beanie, scarf, specialty ball markings and collector packaging.

It does not make the package inexpensive, but it clarifies the proposition. Buyers are getting a dozen premium golf balls they can put directly into play, along with two wearable pieces and packaging designed for display.

There is one important limitation. The kit is offered only with the TOUR B RX, so golfers who produce higher speeds or fit better into the TOUR B X, XS or RXS will be buying primarily for the collectibles. A limited release does not eliminate the need for a proper golf-ball fit.

Buyer’s Note

The Kit Comes Only With TOUR B RX

Bridgestone positions the TOUR B RX for golfers with driver swing speeds below 105 mph who prioritize distance, penetrating flight and approach-shot control.

Why it matters: Golfers who fit another TOUR B model should view the purchase primarily as a collectible rather than choosing the RX solely for the limited-edition design.

Performance Beneath the Packaging

Bridgestone’s 2026 TOUR B lineup is built around its VeloSurge technology, a new core-and-mantle construction the company says produces greater velocity and distance. The RX also retains Bridgestone’s Reactiv iQ urethane cover, which is engineered to remain on the clubface longer during scoring shots to increase spin and control.

Those are manufacturer performance claims rather than conclusions from independent testing, but they explain why Bridgestone chose the RX as more than a decorative centerpiece. The company is using one of its primary 2026 products to support the release rather than repackaging an older-generation ball with a commemorative logo.

That approach also separates the Leaderboard Edition from major-week merchandise that has little use once the tournament ends. The scarf and beanie may spend most of their lives waiting for cooler weather, but the golf balls can remain relevant well after the Claret Jug has been awarded.

Bridgestone Keeps the Open Connection Recognizable

The release describes the Leaderboard Edition as championship-inspired rather than official Open merchandise. Still, the reference is unmistakable. The yellow scoreboard design, links-weather accessories and launch date immediately before the opening round place the product squarely within Royal Birkdale week.

“We created the Leaderboard Edition capsule to honor the oldest championship in golf,” said Adam Rehberg, Bridgestone Golf’s senior product marketing manager. Rehberg said the company wanted to combine TOUR B RX performance with collectible gear that recognized the heritage surrounding the season’s final men’s major.

The restraint in the design helps. Bridgestone did not simply cover the package with generic British imagery. The scoreboard format provides a specific connection to The Open while allowing the company’s players and branding to remain central.

For golfers already playing the TOUR B RX, the Leaderboard Edition offers a usable souvenir from one of the sport’s most recognizable weeks. For everyone else, the appeal will depend on how much value they place on the scarf, beanie and presentation box.

Either way, Bridgestone has made the most important item in the kit one that does not need to remain behind glass.
