Not a whole lot went right for the Cleveland Browns in a 34-10 loss in the 2026 National Football League regular season opener on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but rookie wide receiver Denzel Boston had a performance he’ll always remember.

Boston had a 46-yard scoring reception with 1:52 to go in regulation, giving the Browns their lone touchdown of the game. While it obviously made very little difference for the overall result (unless, of course, you had Under 40.5 – ouch!), it gives Boston and the offense something to build upon heading into Week 2 at Tampa Bay.
Rookie Wideouts Look Like the Real Deal
The Browns drafted wide receiver KC Concepcion with their second first-round pick at No. 24 overall, and Boston in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft with the No. 39 pick overall. And, if we’re being honest, the two rookies might have been the only two players who headed home on the United Airlines Boeing 777 charter flight Sunday from KJAX with their heads hung high.
Boston ended up with two receptions for a team-best 59 yards on four targets, and obviously the late touchdown changes the trajectory of his day. He nearly had one grab for 13 yards on three targets for a full game. But, he kept plugging away, seized the opportunity when it presented itself, and turned a bad day into a good one, adding a milestone football to his bookshelf.

Concepcion was used on three running plays, totaling 15 yards, or 5.0 yards per carry, as the Browns tried some trickeration with running back Quinshon Judkins slow to get going, while Dylan Sampson was forced out early due to injury. We saw signs of how Concepcion would be used in the preseason, when he scored the team’s first TD in Chicago on a run.
In the passing game, Concepcion led the team with four receptions for 43 yards, and he was also at top of the charts with five targets. It says a lot about what the Browns think about Concepcion and Boston, looking back at their usage.
It wasn’t all good, though, as Concepcion did have a lost fumble on a reception midway through the second quarter. There will be growing pains, and teachable moments. But, the Browns look to have hit a rare home run with both young receivers, and the two draftees will always be compared to each other, as they’ll forever be linked.
