The Philadelphia Eagles have started the season 2-0, despite missing their biggest offseason acquisition, Jonathan Greenard. As the team prepares for their Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears, Greenard was a full participant in practice for the first time and is questionable to suit up. When asked how he felt, Greenard was optimistic he will make his long-awaited Eagles debut, stating: “I’m ready to go, for sure.”

The Eagles acquired Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings during the 2026 NFL draft and soon inked him to a four-year, $98 million extension. Greenard’s Eagles career has started rocky, with the 29-year-old straining his pec during preseason lifting, an injury that forced him to miss all of training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
Greenard returned to practice as a limited participant ahead of the Eagles’ Week 1 matchup against the Washington Commanders, but he was ultimately ruled out. The same process played out the following week ahead of the Titans game, with Greenard once again sidelined. Although Greenard was a full participant in the final full practice, Vic Fangio cautioned that the defensive end would likely see limited action if he suits up against Chicago.
“He’s definitely not ready for a full workload,” Fangio said. “He’s not only coming off inactivity, but he’s coming off an injury. His injury for a good bit — the first, I don’t know, four to six, seven weeks — he really couldn’t do a whole lot conditioning-wise either. So yeah, he’s nowhere near ready for a full load.”

Adding Greenard, who recorded back-to-back 12+ sack seasons in 2023 and 2024, would provide much needed juice to the pass rush. Despite ranking eighth in pressure rate at over 40%, the Eagles have the highest time to pressure in the NFL. Worse, the Eagles have struggled to bring opposing quarterbacks down despite the high amount of pressure.
In regard to Monday’s matchup, Greenard boasts an impressively strong resume against Chicago, having previously called the NFC North home. Over his last three games against the Bears, Greenard has racked up 17 total pressures and three sacks. Nick Sirianni shared his excitement about Greenard’s potential return.
“He’s had a good week. It’s exciting to have him out there. We’ll see where we are at the end of today. He’s worked his butt off to be able to get back out there as soon as possible. I’m excited to have that leadership that I’ve seen him show when not playing.”
