According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Eagles are releasing Andy Dalton before their showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The veteran quarterback appeared in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears and tossed an interception at the goal line.

“This doesn’t close the door on Andy Dalton’s tenure with the Eagles,” Garafolo said. “They have a lot of injuries and needed his spot. Could still return, even via a practice-squad spot, a source informed says.”

Dalton, a three-time Pro Bowler, has thrown for 39,793 yards an 254 touchdowns in 180 career games. Although he’s been successful, especially during his time with the Cincinnati Bengals, the reality is he’s nearing the end of his career.

With Dalton out of the picture for now, the Eagles will have Tanner McKee and Cole Payton as their backups for Jalen Hurts.

It’s been a hectic week for Philly.

Earlier this week, the Eagles learned that Lane Johnson was retiring mid-season. The All-Pro offensive tackle said he’s walking away from the game to focus on his family and mental health.

On Wednesday, the Eagles traded Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-rounder to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.

As if losing two members of their offensive line wasn’t bad enough, the Eagles ruled out Saquon Barkley for Week 5 due to injury.

There’s no question Jalen Hurts will need to step up if the Eagles are going to defeat the Jaguars this Sunday.
