A crash Saturday morning in El Dorado County closed a stretch of Highway 50 for several hours.

A pickup truck and an Amazon box truck collided in the westbound lanes of Highway 50 near Ice House Road, according to California Highway Patrol logs. The pickup veered off the roadway while the Amazon truck blocked the westbound lanes. No injuries were reported.

Fire crews responded as a precaution after the Amazon truck’s methane tank was compromised, requiring it to be safely offloaded before the vehicle could be moved, according to CHP logs.

Tow trucks became stuck in backed-up traffic before Caltrans issued a full closure of Highway 50 from about a mile east of Riverton to just west of Meyers, according to Caltrans and CHP.

Extra CHP officers arrived shortly after 11 a.m. to help divert traffic near the Highway 50-89 junction, according to CHP logs.

Callers also told CHP that Google Maps was routing drivers onto Webber Mill Road as an alternate route, which officers said is unsafe for highway traffic.
