The Elk Grove City Council unanimously appointed Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and Councilmember Rod Brewer to new terms Thursday, then canceled the November election for their seats because both were running unopposed, a move expected to save the city over $200,000.

The nomination period for Elk Grove’s election opened July 13 and closed Aug. 7. Singh-Allen and Brewer were the only candidates to file nomination papers and qualify for their respective races.
Singh-Allen was elected mayor in 2020 and previously served as an Elk Grove Unified School District trustee. Brewer was elected in 2022 and represents most of the city’s east side.
Singh-Allen thanked the City Council for its collaboration and Elk Grove residents for their support.
“Serving as your mayor has been one of the greatest privileges and joys of my life, so thank you all for continuing to believe in me,” she said.

Canceling the election is expected to save the city more than $225,000, according to the staff report.
Their terms officially begin in December. Singh-Allen’s term runs through 2028, and Brewer’s runs through 2030.
The general election is scheduled for Nov. 3. Elk Grove voters will still see a District 4 council race on the ballot, with Councilmember Sergio Robles running for re-election against challenger Peggy Parks.
