The Elk Grove Police Department will hold a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location Friday, the agency said in a news release.

The checkpoint is scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday within the city limits.
“The checkpoint will focus on removing impaired drivers under the influence of either alcohol or drugs, as well as unlicensed drivers from the roadways,” the release said.
Officers also will distribute educational materials about the dangers of driving under the influence to motorists who pass through the checkpoint. Authorities encouraged anyone who suspects a driver is impaired to call the department at 916-714-5111 or 911.

Funding for the checkpoint comes from a California Highway Patrol Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program, authorities said. The department conducted similar checkpoints in May, June and August.
California law requires drivers to stop and submit to a sobriety checkpoint when directed by law enforcement.
