Ex-caretaker pleads guilty to theft from elderly Oxnard man who died

An Oxnard woman has pleaded guilty to multiple felony charnges, including theft from an elderly person, according to authorities.

On June 4, Oxnard Police Department officers responded to a report of a burglary at the 4000 block of Dallas Drive, according to a department news release. An elderly man who lived at the home recently died and officers found there was a U-Haul moving truck in front of the home before the burglary.

Police later identified a woman, 43, of Oxnard, as the man’s former caretaker and suspected her of renting the moving truck using another person’s identification, officials said.

The identification used to rent the truck was stolen during a separate vehicle burglary, the release says.

Oxnard investigators learned the woman was being held by Ventura County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Camarillo on multiple offenses that were not related to the Oxnard incident, Oxnard police said.

Police found some of the dead man’s belongings in the Camarillo arrest, officials said. Based on what was found, police arrested the woman June 18 on suspicion of five felony counts, including possession of stolen property and identity theft, the release says.

On July 13, the woman pleaded guilty to her charges, including theft from an elderly person and identity theft, court records show.

She is being held at Ventura County jail with a bail set at $50,000, jail records show. Her next Ventura County Superior Court hearing is Aug. 10.
