Fantasy Football TE Rankings: Who to start Week 6?

One of the best fantasy football tight ends and another who was on the rise (re-rise?) rank among the players who’ll sit in Week 6 thanks to a bye.

This may leave many managers in limbo for what’s already a volatile lineup spot.

Still, I’ve expanded my Week 6 tight end rankings to include more playable names, chiefly with categorizations that favor them in TE Premium/Bonus formats or as mere touchdown-centric dice rolls.

Some alternate-format players might need to dig deep, especially in TEPs where many fantasy managers could roster two or more names at the position.

With this in mind, let’s dig deep among Week 6 fantasy TE names to find a solution this weekend.

Start ‘Em TE: Week 6 Fantasy Football Lineup Sleeper Plays

  • Tyler Higbee, Rams vs. Cardinals
  • Oronde Gadsden, Chargers at Chiefs
  • Mason Taylor, Jets at Patriots

Since Terrance Ferguson hit Injured Reserve, Tyler Higbee has thrived as essentially Matthew Stafford’s No. 3 receiver. From Week 3 (when Ferguson left with injury) to Week 5, Higbee has averaged 7.7 targets, 6.0 catches and 70.7 receiving yards while scoring 1 touchdown. Scoop him up and use him while you can, including this Week 6 matchup with the sixth-most-favorable PPR fantasy defense against the position (20.1 total points allowed from Weeks 2-5).

I’ll be a glutton for punishment again and recommend Oronde Gadsden in deeper games. He’s sandwiched a solid 5-catch, 36-yard Week 4 with two goose-egg games but faces a Chiefs defense that has allowed the second-most PPR points per game (24.3) to the position. Given that Ladd McConkey (ribs) may suit up but do little and Tre’ Harris (quadriceps) and Quentin Johnston (chest) remain week-to-week, Gadsden should slide back into relevance.

The Jets may be without Kenyon Sadiq (concussion) but have an adept replacement in Mason Taylor, who could earn a handful of targets in his absence. Jeremy Ruckert’s presence gives Taylor a lower floor than most other start-worthy names, but Taylor’s ability to line up all over the field could help him become a Geno Smith safety valve in the short term. The Patriots, who’ve dealt with numerous defensive injuries, including lockdown CB Christian Gonzalez, should let him pile up grabs, if not break down entirely.
