A 58-foot fishing vessel ran aground on North Beach at Point Reyes National Seashore in Northern California, closing the popular beach to the public, officials said.

The Lake Bay became stranded just off the beach Friday morning, the U.S. Coast Guard said in a news release.
The vessel carries up to 2,800 gallons of fuel and has 1,000 gallons aboard, but there are no signs of a fuel leak, the release said.
A salvage company will remove the remaining fuel from the boat.
“Our top priorities are ensuring the safety of the first responders and the public, stabilizing the incident, and limiting environmental impacts,” said Lt. Cmdr. Carey Lewis, Coast Guard incident commander.

The vessel is carrying 40,000 pounds of squid, the Point Reyes Light reported.
North Beach and North Beach Road have been temporarily closed as a result of the stranding, the National Park Service said.
Point Reyes National Seashore is about 110 miles southwest of Sacramento and about 60 miles northwest of San Francisco. It is home to a variety of plants and animals, including Northern elephant seals, which give birth and raise their pups at the park.
