Gable Steveson has likened his upcoming fight against Sean Sharaf at UFC 331 to that of 90s Mike Tyson.

Unlike many before him, Steveson brings an undeniably elite resume with him into his mixed martial arts career. An Olympic Gold Medalist, two-time NCAA Division I National Champion, and two-time Dan Hodge Trophy winner, the 26-year-old has superstar-level wrestling credentials that have helped him reach a respectable 4-0 in his early MMA tenure. The heavyweight titan also possesses power in his hands and believes he’s destined to be remembered as one of the greats once the dust settles on his time in the UFC.
Despite Gable Steveson’s pedigree, Sean Sharaf claimed he was unimpressed. But Steveson believes otherwise.
While also praising his opponent, Steveson drew similarities between his fight against Sharaf and Mike Tyson’s 1995 fight against Peter McNeeley, saying:

“He’s a big heavy hitter. He tries to throw both hands at you and tries to get a big shot to land on you. I think Sean was a great regional fighter. I feel like he’s excited to make it to the UFC. But guys like me, we’re not excited to make it to here. We’re excited to win. We’re excited to win belts. We’re excited to support our team and our family.”
Steveson continued.
“I feel like he’s really excited to get this opportunity to go out there and say, ‘Hey, I fought Gable Steveson.’ It’s kind of like when Mike Tyson went against Peter McNeely. Peter McNeely was out here talking [to] the whole world, everybody saying, ‘Hey, I got the chance to fight Mike Tyson.’ And Saturday will be that day for him, and he’ll go to be a regular citizen after that.
