This wasn’t how it was supposed to go for Georgia Tech (0-2).
It wasn’t supposed to lose in the final moments against Colorado – giving up a late score and getting a game-winning field goal attempt blocked – and it should’ve been far more competitive in a 45-24 home loss to Tennessee.
The Yellow Jackets need a confidence boost against a decent Mercer (2-1) team with a dangerous defense.

- Mercer lost last week to Furman in a tough 20-13 game, but it started with a win over East Texas A&M and blew out Presbyterian 62-3.

Why Mercer Will Win
The Bears are getting off to hot starts, outscoring teams 67-6 in the first halves of games. The defense has generated eight sacks and has been terrific against the run.
The Georgia Tech offensive line has been miserable so far. It hasn’t done a thing for the ground game, is getting ripped through for plays in the backfield, and the problems are even worse on the other side.
The run defense is bad, and because of it, offenses are cranking up third down conversions with ease.
Why Georgia Tech Will Win
Georgia Tech has the pieces, but they haven’t come together yet. It would’ve been a huge help to have played Mercer first. The running attack hasn’t figured it out yet, and the downfield passing game hasn’t figured it out yet, but there are still plenty of positives.
The pass defense is solid, and the offense, for all the issues, is at least keeping the chains moving on third downs.
