The Interstate 5 interchange to eastbound Highway 50 will be closed Saturday evening through Sunday morning, Caltrans said in a news release Friday.

The closure, which will last from 9 p.m. Saturday through 9 a.m. Sunday, is expected to cause some traffic delays, and the speed limit in the area has been reduced to 55 mph., according to the release.
The interchange is located near downtown Sacramento. Caltrans recommends that drivers take the off-ramp to South River Road as they approach the interchange, and then take the on-ramp to eastbound Highway 50.
The ongoing work is part of Fix50, a more than $500 million project to add new carpool lanes in each direction from Watt Avenue to the intersection with Interstate 5 in downtown, replace pavement and widen parts of the freeway, among other improvements, the Caltrans release said.

Workers will replace bridge joint seals, which prevent sections of concrete from striking one another as they expand in hot weather, the release said.
Fix50 remains on pace to be completed by the end of summer, with only minor work remaining, a Caltrans official said Friday. Additional nighttime lane closures are expected to continue for at least a few weeks.
Planning began on the 14-mile, $511.1 million freeway project in 2016, and road work began in 2021. The project was initially scheduled for completion in 2025 but was pushed back to July 2026 last year before being delayed again to the end of summer.
