Iberville Parish hosts Mental Health Awareness Week

Iberville Parish Government is hosting six days of events in October in observance of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Prayer, wellness and outreach are part of the events scheduled for Oct. 5-10.

Here is the calendar of events:

Monday, Oct. 5

  • Wear Green Day: Wear green for mental health awareness. All are encouraged to join in and share photos.

Tuesday, Oct. 6

  • Community Prayer Call: Minister Donovan Johnson will lead the call at noon. Dial (605) 313-9876. Code 69001858
  • Tool for Tough Days: Wellness workshop for youth and adults, which will cover stress, anxiety, depression, substance use and practical coping tools.

Wednesday, Oct. 7

  • Check In, Don’t Check Out: Reach out to someone you trust and tell them how you’ve really been doing.

Thursday, Oct. 8

  • Coffee & Depression Screenings: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., 24705 Plaza Drive, Suite B, Plaquemine.

Friday, Oct. 9

  • “When Someone You Love Is Struggling”: Noon to 1 p.m., Avis Kado Brown, LCSW-BACS
  • Behavioral Health Awareness Walk/Run & Wellness Resource Fair: 8 a.m., Belleview Park, adjacent Carl F. Grant Civic Center. The event will include a community walk/run, a mental health/wellness resource fair, a live DJ and free event T-shirts while supplies last.
