One person is dead after a shooting involving federal U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel in Maine, state House Speaker Ryan Fecteau said.

Fecteau said the shooting occurred on the morning of Monday, July 13, in the city of Biddeford, about 15 miles south of Portland.
“State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well,” Fecteau said.
ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-Maine, said on X that she’s aware of reports about the shooting.

“I am so deeply disturbed and angry,” she said in a video posted on social media, adding that she’s waiting to learn exactly what occurred.
The shooting comes less than a week after an ICE agent in Houston, Texas, fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. The case reignited scrutiny against federal agents months after the shooting deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal officers in Minneapolis.
