The Valkyries are seeking to build off a playoff appearance in their inaugural season with a culture centered around defensive strength and a balanced offensive attack.
Their big addition this offseason was Gabby Williams, who was an All-Star with the Storm last year. The former UConn star who plays for the French national team has deep ties to the Bay Area, making her signing with the Valkyries a homecoming of sorts.
The teams made a surprising trade on draft night last month as the Valkyries sent Flau’jae Johnson to Seattle in exchange for Marta Suarez and a pick in next year’s draft. Golden State waived Suarez last weekend in another surprise. They also faced off in a preseason game April 25 in the Bay Area, with the Valkyries coming out on top at Chase Center.
