Two-time All-Star starting pitcher Logan Webb, of Rocklin, will start the game for the River Cats as a part of a rehab assignment as he recovers from right knee bursitis, which placed him on the 15-day injured list earlier in May, the team confirmed on social media.

Webb, 29, had made 157 consecutive starts for the Giants, but said he had been struggling with the nagging knee injury for some time before hitting the injured list, according to MLB.com. After five straight seasons with a sub-3.50 ERA, Webb was pitching to an inflated 5.06 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 48 innings across eight starts to begin the 2026 season.

“I haven’t missed a start in a long time, so it’s been eating at me a little bit,” Webb said after hitting the injured list, according to MLB.com. “But I think it’s best for me, best for the team, best for the longevity of my career. That sort of thing. I’ve got a lot of good people in my corner that talked me into it, pretty much. But I’m glad I did.”

In 2019, Webb pitched one game for the River Cats at Sutter Health Park, tossing seven innings of one-run ball before making his MLB debut five days later. He then pitched in a second game for the River Cats in 2021, as a rehab assignment after solidifying his place in the Giants’ rotation.

Webb also started a game at Sutter Health Park last July when the Giants came to play the Athletics, who are playing their home games in West Sacramento in the interim between their departure from Oakland after the 2024 season and their planned move to Las Vegas in 2028. Webb threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, seven hits and three walks while fanning six to help the Giants to a 7-2 win.

Webb missed this year’s A’s series in West Sacramento with the knee injury.

After the 2025 game, the Rocklin native expressed his excitement for then-recently drafted Sacramento Kings Nique Clifford and All-Rookie Second Team member Maxime Raynaud, who simultaneously threw out the first pitch. Webb is a documented, diehard Kings fan.

Webb and the River Cats take on the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, the Houston Astros Triple-A affiliate, at 6:45 p.m. Friday at Sutter Health Park.
