One person was killed and three others believed to be students were wounded in a shooting Wednesday evening in a parking lot outside Fairfield High School following a Sem Yeto Continuation High School graduation ceremony, police said.

Fairfield police were dispatched about 7:15 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of Fairfield High School, according to Officer Michelle Belyea, a spokesperson for the Fairfield Police Department. The campus shares the 200 block of East Atlantic Avenue with Sem Yeto.
“We do know that there are four victims of gunshot wounds,” Belyea told news outlets including KCRA in Sacramento. “One is deceased and three others are receiving treatment at local hospitals.”
Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the victims or provide information about the severity of the injuries suffered by the three surviving victims.
Fairfield, a North Bay suburb of roughly 120,000 residents, is half way between San Francisco and Sacramento in Solano County.
About 8 p.m., Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez posted on social media that there was an “active shooter chase” taking place in Fairfield. According to San Francisco TV station KTVU in Oakland, her initial post said three students had been shot during the graduation ceremony; she later edited the post to say individuals instead of students.
In a statement provided to ABC10 in Sacramento, a spokesperson for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District confirmed the shooting happened during Sem Yeto ceremonies.

“We are aware that there was a shooting after the Sem Yeto High School graduation ceremonies had ended, and are gathering details,” Ilana Israel Samuels, the district’s executive director of communications told ABC10. “Law enforcement is on campus, and as this is an active investigation, we have no additional information to share at this time.
“Our thoughts are with the individuals affected and as soon as we have more details we will share that with you.”
Police did not release information about a suspect or possible suspect vehicle.
Neighbors whose property is adjacent to Fairfield High told the Daily Republic newspaper that they had heard multiple shots but believed there to be only one gunman, described as a juvenile.
Belyea said the shooting was especially alarming because it occurred during a school-related event.
“Obviously it’s a very scary incident when something like this does happen, especially during the time of a school event,” she said. “So obviously we just want everyone to be safe out in the community.”
The investigation remained ongoing Wednesday night and police ask that anyone with information contact them at 707-428-7300.
