21-year-old man fatally shot in lobby of south Sacramento Motel 6, deputies say

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed early Tuesday inside a Motel 6 in south Sacramento, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded about 1:30 a.m. to the Motel 6 in the 7400 block of Elsie Avenue, near Stockton Boulevard, after receiving multiple reports of a shooting in the lobby, said Sgt. Ed Igoe, a sheriff’s office spokesperson.

When deputies arrived, they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound and began life-saving measures while firefighters responded, Igoe said. Fire crews later pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The shooter fled before deputies arrived, and Igoe said the suspect remained outstanding Tuesday morning. A motive for the shooting was not immediately known.

The shooting remains under investigation, and the victim’s identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
