Sacramento police arrest second teen suspect in deadly Hagginwood Park shooting

Investigators arrested a second teen suspect in connection with a shooting a few months ago at Sacramento’s Hagginwood Park where one man was killed and another was wounded by gunfire.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of homicide in the February shooting, the Sacramento Police Department announced Tuesday in a social media update. Police said the teen homicide suspect was booked at the Sacramento County Juvenile Hall.

The first suspect apprehended in this shooting investigation, another 17-year-old boy, was arrested “on homicide-related charges,” police announced a few weeks after the deadly shooting. The second suspect also was taken into custody and booked at the Juvenile Hall.

The shooting was reported shortly before 1 p.m. on Feb. 2 at the park in the 3200 block of Marysville Boulevard, just north of Arcade Boulevard in Sacramento’s Hagginwood neighborhood.

Officers arrived at the shooting scene and found the two wounded men who were both taken by ambulance to a hospital. One of the men was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the other man suffered serious injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the man who died after his family has been notified. As of Wednesday, coroner’s officials had not released his name.

Coroner records show it was a 45-year-old man experiencing homelessness who was killed in the Feb. 2 shooting at Hagginwood Park in Sacramento.
