California Highway Patrol arrested a man who police say evaded arrest and stole a patrol car, the Sacramento Police Department announced Friday afternoon.

Sacramento Police said the incident began as officers were responding to a report of vandalism off Marysville Boulevard and South Avenue in Del Paso Heights around 12:30 p.m.

When officers attempted to detain a suspect, they said the individual stole a marked police cruiser and fled. The suspect then led police on a chase headed southbound on Highway 99 in Sacramento County. California Highway Patrol joined the pursuit and stopped the vehicle near exit 267A on Turner Road in Lodi.
