The Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors have only held lottery picks in the same year five times since the NBA draft lottery was introduced in 1985, but it has happened three times in the past seven years.

Both teams are in prime position to add impact players as the first round unfolds Tuesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Sacramento has the seventh overall pick. Golden State has the 11th pick.

Kings general manager Scott Perry is searching for a future star who can be a cornerstone piece in Sacramento’s rebuild after the Kings went 22-60 to miss the playoffs for the 19th time in 20 years. Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. wants a young rotational player who can help his team now and later as Golden State tries to find a path to contention in its final years with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and coach Steve Kerr.

Both Northern California teams should be able to meet their objectives in a loaded draft that has drawn comparisons to the legendary classes of 1996 and 2003. BYU forward AJ Dybantsa, Kansas guard Darryn Peterson, Duke forward Cameron Boozer and North Carolina forward Caleb Wilson are widely projected as the top four picks, but there is talent waiting to be tapped through the lottery and late in the first round.

Sacramento has been strongly linked to Arkansas point guard Darius Acuff Jr. and Houston point guard Kingston Flemings in the weeks leading up to the draft. One trusted NBA talent evaluator told The Sacramento Bee that Acuff is the best pure point guard in the draft followed by Flemings.

The latest intel suggests the Los Angeles Clippers will select Illinois combo guard Keaton Wagler and No. 5 and the Brooklyn Nets will take Louisville point guard Mikel Brown Jr. at No. 6. In all likelihood, the Kings will select Acuff if he is available at No. 7. If not, they will probably turn their attention to Flemings, but Brown would also be a possibility if he’s still on the board.

Who will Golden State Warriors pick?

The Warriors are expected to target a versatile forward or an NBA-ready big man to bolster their frontcourt. There should be some good ones on the board when they make their selection at No. 11.

One intriguing possibility is 6-foot-10 Michigan power forward Yaxel Lendeborg. Other talented big men projected in this range include 6-10 ¼ Michigan power forward/center Morez Johnson Jr., 7-4 ¼ Michigan center Aday Mara and 6-11 ½ Washington power forward Hannes Steinbach.
