Fresno County Coroner’s Office spokesperson Tony Botti on Tuesday identified the victim as Alfonso Ventura, 39, of Fresno.
Ventura died around 5:30 a.m. Monday after crashing into a semi-truck on Manning Avenue, east of Chateau Fresno Avenue.
Ventura was driving a Toyota Tundra west on Manning, though he was in the eastbound lane, authorities say. The Freightliner truck was pulling an empty trailer eastbound on Manning.
The semi-truck driver attempted to swerve to avoid the Toyota, though this was unsuccessful, authorities say.

The Freightliner lost control and came to a rest in a grape vineyard, while the Toyota overturned and became engulfed in flames.
Ventura was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The Freightliner driver was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.
The surviving driver was cooperative, and authorities determined he wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Toxicology results for Ventura are pending.
The crash is still under investigation.
