Driver dies after dump truck rolls over on Interstate 5 near Woodland, CHP says

A crash on Interstate 5 claimed the life of a dump-truck driver early Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol reported a solo vehicle incident involving a Peterbilt dump truck occurred shortly after noon on southbound Interstate 5 in Woodland, south of Main Street.

The driver was the sole occupant of the dump truck, according to a news release by the CHP’s Woodland office. A preliminary CHP investigation determined the dump truck went onto the right shoulder before it rolled over.

When first responders arrived, according to CHP, the driver was still alive. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where they died of their injuries, the news release said.

The CHP did not release the name, gender or age of the driver. It is whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident.
